For anyone else that is having trouble finding a copy of North and South (by Elizabeth Gaskell, NOT John Jakes), the entire book is available to read for free online. I know it is not the most ideal reading conditions, but I have already read the first two chapters while I wait (for a second time) to receive my book in the mail.
